Entry requirements

Previous office experience is not required to undertake this program, although an understanding of computer applications and basic finance operations is important.

Students are required to undertake an interview with a teacher prior to enrolment.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course however students will need to provide their own USB and stationery.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable Internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.


Residential delivery: This is a full time course that caters for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students living in Cairns, Cape York, Torres Straits and other areas outside of Cairns. This course offers regular study blocks at the Cairns campus. Students are expected to attend these classes and also complete some of their studies outside of class times. There are 6 weeks of class room training provided in 3 x 2 week blocks over the duration of the course. This program is ABSTUDY approved and students who qualify are able to receive travel, accommodation and meals assistance to attend the study blocks.

All units have a study guide and assessment tasks and these can be completed during the residential workshops and via self-paced learning.

ABSTUDY: This qualification is ABSTUDY approved. Students who qualify for ABSTUDY may be eligible to receive travel, accommodation and meal allowances to attend residential study blocks in Cairns (or an approved location). Students must register and provide their confirmation of ABSTUDY upon enrolling in the qualification.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.


The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses. The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.
