This course is designed for people who desire to develop advanced skills in a business administration environment.  Students will learn essential administrative skills in the following areas; administering projects, reporting on financial activity; organising meetings; preparing business documents; using complex word, excel, and delivering effective presentations.  Additionally students will take an active role in implementing WHS policies and programs into their workplace. Entry requirements

Applicants must be 16 years or older and have sound computer knowledge and literacy and numeracy skills.
There are no minimal education requirements to complete this qualification.  The preferred pathway into this qualification is a Certificate III in Business or relevant work experience.

Students will need to participate in an interview prior to enrolment.  All applicants are invited to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy indicator as part of the enrolment process.  Enrolment can be arranged by contacting the Portfolio of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs, on 4042 2595 or 1300 656 959.

This program is ABSTUDY approved.  Students who qualify for ABSTUDY may be eligible to receive travel, accommodation and meal assistance to attend scheduled residential blocks in Cairns.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.


Cairns and Cape York: Full time over 11 months. This program is self- paced and can be completed earlier.

Residentials:  3 x 2 week residential blocks are offered at the Cairns campus.  Students will be expected to attend these workshops as well as complete about 50% of the program work in their own time.

  • Block 2     10 -21 September 2018
  • Block 3     5 - 16 November 2018

ABSTUDY: This program is an ABSTUDY approved course.  Students who qualify may be eligible for Away From Base assistance (travel, accommodation and meals) to attend study blocks at the approved location. Students must be in receipt of an ABSTUDY benefit and provide their ABSTUDY evidence before attending the first study block.

This program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required for office administration and project management in a supervisory role.
