This qualification provides advanced skills in addressing copyright requirements and following health, safety and security procedures in the music industry. Subjects cover a broad area including analysing harmony, composing music using electronic media, developing technical skills and expanding repertoire and producing sound recordings.

This qualification prepares students for careers in performing, composing, sound recording, technical work and music promotion. Successful completion of the Diploma of Music can open pathways into:

  • Advanced Diploma of Music (CUS60515)
  • Bachelor of Creative Industries (Music) with two years credit at James Cook University.

Entry requirements

Students must have either obtained a Certificate IV in Music Industry (CUA40915) or will need to submit an application and then attend an informal music audition (either instrumental or vocal) and a personal interview with a member of the teaching staff prior to enrolment.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Timetable

Study is a combination of theory, practical and performance oriented sessions.

Full time study over five days per week, 9am until 4pm each day over a 12 month duration.

To gain this Diploma, students need to successfully complete 16 units: 4 core and 12 elective units
