Age: The Education and Care Services National Regulations require family day care educators to be 18 years of age. Educators working in a centre-based service under 18 years must be supervised. Course applicants should be 17 years or older.
Working with Children check (Blue Card): Volunteers and trainee students who work with children and young people must hold a current blue card as this work falls into the category of regulated employment. Blue cards for volunteers and trainee students are valid for three years and there is no application fee, unless the trainee student is a paid employee. A volunteer or trainee student must not commence regulated child-related work until they hold a valid blue card.
Immunisation: Students should be aware that all children service educators may be exposed to diseases that are preventable by vaccination. To manage the risk to educators, children services may require the completion of a vaccination record or full immunisation.
