There are no formal entry requirements; however it is recommended that students have completed Year 10 or relevant skills and knowledge with basic computer skills and access to the Internet. Students must be have a Blue and Yellow card upon enrolment.
Working with Children check (Blue Card): Volunteers and trainee students who work with children and young people must hold a blue card as this work falls into the category of regulated employment. Blue cards for volunteers and trainee students are valid for three years and there is no application fee, unless the trainee student is a paid employee. A volunteer or trainee student must not commence regulated child-related work until they hold a valid blue card. Disability workers are required to hold a current First Aid certificate. Students undertaking compulsory placement in this program will be required to undergo a Working With Children Check and apply for a Blue Card. Students must have a Blue Card before commencing study.
Under the Disability Services Act 2006, a current blue card holder who has an agreement (written or unwritten) with a Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services funded non-government service provider or an NDIS non-government service provider to work at a place where disability services are provided to adults, must apply for a positive exemption notice (a yellow card exemption).
Student must have the following prior to enrolling into the course: Blue Card and Yellow Exemption Cards. A first aid certificate is also recommended prior to undertaking Vocational Placement..

Students must have basic computer skills and are required to have access to computer with Internet and Microsoft Office software. Students are encouraged to "Bring Your Own Device" and connect to the TAFE Queensland wireless network - tablet, laptop, USB.
If required, additional resources can be borrowed from your local TAFE Queensland campus or your local Library. Students must wear appropriate clothing and enclosed shoes when doing practical work in the simulated lab.
Bowen campus: This course is delivered in Block training modes.
Cairns campus: This course is delivered face-to-face two days per week;Tuesday and Thursday 9.00am – 3.30pm.
Townsville (Aitkenvale) campus: This course is delivered face-to-face three days per week, Monday 12:30pm - 3:30pm and Wednesday 9am - 12pm with a VC session on Tuesday morning followed by self directed study in the afternoon.
Students who are not currently working in the industry are required to complete Vocational Placement for this program - placement of 120 hrs.
