Want to be a community service and development professional? We will give you the skills needed to provide day-to-day person centered support to people in need. You will learn how to provide emotional and practical support and how to work with a variety of clients. This certificate is an ideal introduction into the community services sector which can also lead into a wide range of roles with real opportunities to support people in need with this formal qualification in Community Services. Your learning experience may be a blend of classroom teaching and practical application as well as online work or it may be solely online.   The skills you learn will equip you to safely care in a variety of environments with a diverse range of people.

Entry requirements

It is preferable for students to have completed Year 10 English or Level III English Language studies.  You will require basic computer skills and will require the time each week to undertake your placement

You are required to obtain a National Police Check and/or Positive Notice for Child Related Employment (Blue Card) prior to enrolment.  NOTE: As students must have a Blue Card prior to enrolment, therefore we strongly suggest commencing enrolment discussions early with our Client Services team as there may be a 6-8 week processing time for Blue Card applications

Resources required

Please be aware that you will also be required to supply the following items at your cost:

  • USB memory/flash stick – recommended size 2GB
  • No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable Internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Information Sessions:
Cairns: 6/12/2017 at 10am - 11.00am and 5.30pm - 6.30pm, Room: K Block Theatrette
Townsville (Aitkenvale): 30/11/2017 at 6:00pm - 6:45pm and 7:00pm - 7:45pm, Room: Second Floor A Block  (Aitkenvale)

Aitkenvale campus: This course is delivered with block training one week every month over 6 months.  Refer to the attached timetable.

Bowen campus: Weekly classroom delivery on Tuesday 9.30am to 11.30am and Friday 9.30am to 11.30am with self directed learning outside of class times via Connect.

Cairns campus: This course is delivered full time over 6 months attending 2 days per week (Monday and Wednesday 9:00am - 3:30pm) encompassing self-directed learning outside of class times via Connect.

External delivery:  External studies are self paced through the Learning Management System, Connect.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses. The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

The Queensland government has identified a number of industries with a high demand for trained workers. To help fill these gaps, they will pay the full cost of a number of certificate III qualifications in high-priority study areas under the Certificate 3 Guarantee and User Choice programs. We want school leavers to gain the important skills and training they need before starting their university studies or careers - debt-free.
