VET Student Loans

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Prior to applying for a VET Student Loan, please ensure that you have read and understood the VET Student Loans Pre-Enrolment Information

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

You must demonstrate academic suitability by:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

More information about VET Student Loans.

VET student loans will not be approved for students who do not meet the eligibility requirements. VET student loans gives rise to a HELP debt that continues to be a debt due to the Commonwealth until it is repaid.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Note: If you are accessing a VET Student Loan, and there is a difference between the loan cap amount and the total cost of your course (for example your loan cap amount is $10,000 and your course costs $11,000 - there is a $1,000 difference), you are required to pay the difference.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
