Entry requirements

It is recommended that students have completed Year 12 or equivalent.

The ability to undertake research and apply one self to self directed learning activities is essential and prospective students must have a suitable level of maturity and self awareness in order to progress successfully through the course, and to work in the field of non-judgemental counselling and support.

Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

In order to meet the criteria of direct observation tasks, students are required to create and upload video clips of a suitable quality and standard.

Students will also need to purchase Basic Personal Counselling: A training manual for counsellors (8th Edition) (D Geldard, K Geldard, Foo). Publisher-Cengage Learning (2017)

Timetable

Online: This course is delivered online over 18 months.  Students enrol and complete one cluster of 16 - 20 weeks duration at a time. On successful completion the student enrols in the next cluster as per the delivery plan.

Aitkenvale Campus:  Classroom based delivery over two days per week 9.00am to 2.00pm.  Includes self-directed learning and research tasks.

Important Information

Students may be eligible for provisional membership with the ACA (Australian Counselling Association) upon successful completion of the course.

In order to provide students with a balanced and structured study pathway, the course has been divided into six enrolment clusters.

This qualification consists of 17 units; 13 core and 4 electives.

Payment Plan
