This post-trade course is designed for providing licensed plumbers with the skills and knowledge for servicing, testing and installing Thermostatic Mixing Valves devices (TMV).  It satisfies the training requirements specified by the Plumbing Industry Council when seeking a Thermostatic Mixing Valves endorsement on their open Plumbing licence.

Areas of study include:

  • basic hydraulics and mechanics relevant to water temperature control devices and their installation
  • characteristics and applications of different types of hot and/or heated water temperature control valves and devices
  • effective isolation procedures
  • process of commissioning hot and/or heated water temperature control devices
  • relevant statutory requirements related to commissioning hot and/or heated water temperature control devices

Entry requirements

Participants must already hold a Certificate III in Plumbing, nationally recognised qualification/course or equivalent and must be a licensed plumber.  Alternatively apprentices completing their stage 6 block may enrol. It is necessary to supply an occupational licence i.e. Registration level - Plumber.

Online: To undertake theory training component online, participants will be required to have access to a computer, the internet and provide a current email address. Once enrolled a TAFE Queensland Student Number will be issued. This Student Number will act as a user name and a password allowing access to the on line training program will be sent separately via email.

Resources required

Please be aware that you will also be required to supply the following items at your cost:

  • Protective clothing
  • Steel capped safety boots are required while engaged in work activities and while students are in designated areas of TAFE
  • Long sleeved shirts are highly recommended  *Singlet tops are not allowed.
  • Rule Book: AS/NZS3500.2003
  • Notebook, pens, pencils and calculator.

Timetable

Cairns campus: Classroom based - part time, 2 nights per week over 2 weeks plus 2 Saturdays.
Townsville Trade Training Centre: Blended delivery - theory component is delivered online and is required to be completed prior to attending the practical component. Full time practical component is 2 nights (Tuesday & Thursday).

Outcome

This unit provides the outcomes required to evaluate the design and planning the installation requirements to ensure safe installation of thermostatic mixing valve devices and provides licensed plumbers with the opportunity to enhance their skills.
