Giving you introductory skills, you will learn how to read and interpret plans and specifications, use construction tools and equipment and undertake a basic construction project. A General Safety Induction (White Card) also forms part of this course and once successfully completed, you will be issued with a White Card – a mandatory industry requirement to enter and work on a construction site. Entry requirements

Students are required to be at least 16 years of age. Year 10 or equivalent is desirable. Students will be required to wear long trousers or jeans, collared shirt with sleeves and enclosed shoes.

A literacy and numeracy assessment will be conducted to identify any areas a student may require learning support.

Resources required

Students are required to have their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work stationary. This will include:

  • Approved safety glasses
  • Steel capped work footwear
  • Appropriate work clothing (no singlets)
  • Pens, pencils and notebook.

Timetable

Cairns campus: Eight weeks full time, four days per week, Monday to Thursday, 8.00am - 4.00pm and includes one week of work experience

Mount Isa campus: Ten weeks, three days per week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 8.30am - 3.30pm.

Payment Plan

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
