Build a career in the construction industry from basics.

Giving you introductory skills, you will learn how to read and interpret plans and specifications, use construction tools and equipment and undertake a basic construction project. A General Safety Induction (White Card) also forms part of this course and once successfully completed, you will be issued with a White Card – a mandatory industry requirement to enter and work ona construction site. Entry requirements

Students are required to be at least 16 years of age. Year 10 or equivalent is desirable. Students will be required to wear long trousers or jeans, collared shirt with sleeves and enclosed shoes.

Townsville Trade Training Centre: As this is a specially funded program by Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) under the 'Trade Start program'; students must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen permanently residing in Queensland or be a holder of a refugee or humanitarian visa; and meet additional criteria.  See here for further details: www.csq.org.au/course?id=73&g=11

Resources required

Students are required to have their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work stationary. This will include:

  • Approved safety glasses
  • Steel capped work footwear
  • Appropriate work clothing (no singlets)
  • Pens, pencils and notebook.

Cairns campus: Taking Expressions of Interest for 2017

Full time over 11 weeks blended delivery of Classroom blocks and Structured Workplace Learning (SWL).  Interested in a challenge? After successful completion of the Certificate I only an additional 5 units are required to obtain the Certificate II in Construction.

  • Classroom blocks - 3 days per week for a total of 7 weeks (Monday-Wednesday 8.30am - 4.00pm).
  • Structured Workplace Learning 5 days per week for a total of 4 weeks (Monday – Friday up to 8hrs* per day). *Times may be adjusted to suit the work placement provider requirements.

Townsville Trade Training Centre:  Taking Expressions of Interest for 2017

Full time over 12 weeks blended delivery of Classroom blocks and Structured Workplace Learning (SWL).

  • Classroom blocks4 days per week for a total of 8 weeks (Monday-Wednesday 8.15am - 4.45pm, Thursday 10.30am - 4.45pm).
  • Structured Workplace Learning 5 days per week for a total of 4 weeks (Monday – Friday up to 8hrs* per day). *Times may be adjusted to suit the work placement provider requirements.

Mount Isa campus:  Commencing 31st July

Payment Plan

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
