Build yourself a great career in carpentry

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to work as a carpenter in the building and construction industry. Learn how to plan and organise work, read and interpret plans and specifications, construct wall, bulkheads and ceiling frames, install and replace windows and doors, construct pitched and advanced roofs and eaves, perform levelling operations, cut and bend materials, frame and fit wet area fixtures and erect and dismantle formwork for footings and slabs on the ground. You will also gain skills in a number of other areas including, working safely at heights, installing flooring systems and wet area fixtures. Course details

Entry requirements

Entry to this qualification is usually through an indenture as an apprentice or via RPL (see below). The outcome will be a tradesperson in the particular chosen trade calling. NB: In some cases, credit towards this qualification may apply from previously completed study. School based apprenticeships are also available. Minimum age: Entry into an apprenticeship or traineeship is generally limited to individuals who are 16 years of age or older. In special circumstances consideration may be given to individuals 13 years or older seeking to enter into an apprenticeship or traineeship. Queensland legislation applies age restrictions to particular apprenticeships and traineeships.  If you are under 18 years of age at the start date of your apprenticeship or traineeship, your parent or guardian must sign the training contract.

Education: Levels of education that should be attained prior to entry into the apprenticeship may be recommended but these are not mandatory unless the levels are set in legislation. Block delivery of 5 days per week per block, 8.00am - 4.30pm.

Enrolled students must complete a minimum of two units of gap training and must be able to use RPL for 80% of the qualification.  Gap training and RPL must be completed by 30 September 2017 to access funding.  Conditions apply.
