Develop extensive practical skills and theoretical knowledge in a range of treatments, enabling you to successfully own and operate or manage a salon.

This is a unique qualification that involves training in a variety of skill areas relating to the beauty industry. Students will learn to treat a variety of skin and body conditions, apply day and evening makeup, perform a relaxing Swedish massage, reflexology and aromatherapy. The qualification also includes manicures and pedicures, advanced facial treatments, full body and intimate waxing pedicures, advanced facial treatments, full body and intimate waxing, eyelash extensions, microdermabrasion and hot stone massage. Entry requirements

Students that complete the SHB30115 Certificate III in Beauty Services will only require 11 units instead of 25 to complete the Diploma; as such the cost will reduce.  Please refer to the Costs tab for the fee breakdown.

Resources required

Students must present themselves in a professional manner, including coming to class in uniform, black pants and black enclosed shoes

As some resources may be online, it is recommended that students have access to a reliable Internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a laptop with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations, however, Internet access at home is required.

Students will need to purchase a USB

Students are required to have their hair tied back and have short natural nails (no artificial nails).  All facial piercings are to be removed (and during certain practical classes body piercings will need to be removed). No jewellery to be worn with the exception of a pair of studs in the lower ear and a wedding ring

Students are required to purchase in addition to the course fees a textbook, make-up kit, manicure & pedicure kit - these resources will be handed out on the commencement of the course

Students to purchase lash extension kits for $172.00. Order form has been provided in "Relevant Documents".

To ensure students are in TAFE Queensland Beauty Uniforms, students will need to go to the below supplier to be fitted for uniforms prior to the course commencement. Students will need to source their own black pants, no leggings.  If you would like a second uniform, you will need to pay an additional $55.00.  Note: This resource fee cannot be deferred using VET Student Loans, however a Payment Plan is available.

  • Cairns students will need to source their own uniform from Uniform Supplier, Cairns: Ambition Uniform, 242 Spence St, Bungalow QLD 4870, Phone:(07) 4031 2110, hours of operation 9am – 5pm
  • Townsville student uniforms will be ordered by the TAFE Queensland Beauty Team.

Group 3 Part time: Tuesday and Wednesday evenings 6:00pm–9:00pm with 3-day blocks in one week during term holidays

Students that complete both the Certificate III and Diploma will pay up to $5,500 for the SHB30115 Certificate III in Beauty Services and then only require 11 units to complete the Diploma at $6,820 (VSL loan cap of $10,000 available); total course fee up to $12,320.
Students wishing to only complete the SHB50115 Diploma of Beauty Therapy will pay total course fee of $15,000 (VSL loan cap of $10,000 available).

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
