Entry requirements

All students will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment.  It is recommended that students have completed Year 10 or equivalent, with sound achievements in English and Maths and have good communication skills.

Note: All required equipment is mandatory. 

It is also recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Timetable

Cairns campus - January intake: Full time over 15 weeks:

12 weeks attending 3 days per week from 8am to 4.30pm (Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays)
3 weeks on-the-job training with industry placement (40 hours per week)

Cairns campus - May intake: Full time over 15 weeks:

5 weeks attending 3 days per week from 8am to 4.30pm (Wednesdays, Thursday, Friday)
9 weeks attending 2 days per week at TAFE and 1 day (8 hours) on-the-job training with industry placement
1 week on-the-job training with industry placement (40 hours)

Cannonvale (Whitsundays) campus: Part time:  one day per week  (8.30am - 4.30pm) 

Townsville (Pimlico) campus: Part time:  one day per week  (8.30am - 4.30pm)

Important Information

Cairns Only - The Vocational Placement component of this program is organised by our Professional Cookery Trainers, who will match students skills and knowledge learned with employers who may be looking for apprentices.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses. The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

If you're a Queensland resident, have just finished year 12 and are keen to start your studies within the next calendar year, you might be eligible to study fee free!

The Queensland government has identified a number of industries with a high demand for trained workers. To help fill these gaps, they will pay the full cost of a number of certificate III qualifications in high-priority study areas under the Certificate 3 Guarantee and User Choice programs. We want school leavers to gain the important skills and training they need before starting their university studies or careers - debt-free. Additional costs

Resources as listed are not included in the cost of training.  Additional cost is approximately $500.00 directly to suppliers.  It is recommended that students purchase their own stationery including a USB.
