Entry requirements

Completion of Year 12 in High School is strongly desirable due to language, literacy and numeracy requirements. Students currently working in the ‘Sport, Recreation and Fitness’ sector are preferred candidates.

Sports shoes (for all activities) to be worn at all times as well as hat for all outdoor activities.

Timetable

Cairns Campus: This course is designed to allow remote Indigenous students to attend residential blocks at Cairns Campus of TAFE Queensland. There are 4 x 2 week residential blocks in Cairns.  The residential blocks are currently scheduled as follows:

  • Residential One: 31 July - 11 August
  • Residential Two: 28 August - 8 September
  • Residential Three: 9 October - 20 October
  • Residential Four: 20 November - 1 December

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses. The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

Concession

You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability. Additional costs

Please be aware that you will also be required to supply the following items at your cost:

  • Hat for all outdoor activities.
  • Whistle for all coaching activities.
  • Towel for all gym / fitness activities.
  • Sports shoes (for all activities) to be worn at all times.
  • Polo shirt with short sleeves * Singlet tops are not allowed.
  • PCYC Gym Membership (a subsidised cost for gym membership at PCYC is included in the course fees).
  • USB memory/flash stick – recommended size 2GB.
  • Pens (preferably blue and black ink), pencils, eraser, whiteout (optional), and calculator (optional).

Resources supplied by TAFE Queensland:

  • Ring binder folder, dividers and plastic sleeves to store work material.
  • Hill A & Marchese R (2011) The essential guide to fitness, 2e, Pearson Australia (access to class set).
