Do you spend hours in the make-up section of your favourite department store or pharmacy?  Love cosmetics, pampering and all things beauty? This course is ideal for students who are looking to become a Beauty Consultant. The Certificate II in Retail Make-Up and Skin Care has been designed for those wishing to gain employment in the beauty, pharmacy and retail industries. It covers a wide variety of theoretical and practical classes. This course involves communicating in the workplace, performing routine salon/store functions, demonstrating skin care products, designing and applying make-up, lash and brow treatments and eyelash extensions. Entry requirements

This course is for High School students only.

There are not formal entry requirements into this program, however TAFE Queensland North suggests the following criteria:

  • Students must have basic literacy, numeracy and computer skills or equivalent to Year 10

Resources required

  • Students must present themselves in a professional manner, including coming to class in uniform, black pants and black enclosed shoes.  Students will be required to purchase a uniform t-shirt, details will be provided upon enrolment.

  • As some resources may be online, it is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a laptop with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations, however, internet access at home is required.

  • Students will need to purchase a USB

  • Students are required to have their hair tied back and have short natural nails (no artificial nails).  All facial piercings are to be removed (and during certain practical classes body piercings will need to be removed). No jewellery to be worn with the exception of a pair of studs in the lower ear and a wedding ring


Cairns Campus: Part time, 1 day per week over 9 months, (Thursdays 9:00am - 3:00pm).

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.


The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.


You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability.
