This course is designed for builders and managers, wanting to gain the technical qualifications to apply for a Builder – Low Rise Licence. It covers the building construction theory and practices, relating to low-rise buildings and provides the knowledge and managerial skills required to manage a successful residential building business. This program does not have any specific entry requirements. However, completion of Certificate III in Carpentry or equivalent and Year 12 English and Mathematics is recommended. Students must hold a Trade Qualification (Certificate III) in the Construction industry to be eligible for funding. The program meets the technical qualifications requirement of the QBCC Builder - Low-Rise licence

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.
It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.
Cairns Campus: Self-paced online study with fortnightly tutorials from 5.00pm to 8.00pm commencing Tuesday 6th Februray 2018.
Bohle Campus: Self-paced online study with fortnightly tutorials from 5.00pm to 7.00pm commencing Tuesday 6th February 2018.
Students need to successfully complete 16 units to gain the qualification; 13 core and 3 elective units.
The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
Higher Level Skills Subsidy
The Higher Level Skills Subsidy is a one-off subsidy that offsets the cost of an eligible Certificate IV or higher courses.
You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:
Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
Live in Queensland full time
Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.
For some courses, you may also be required to hold a certificate 3 in a relevant industry field.
You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability.
