AMSA approved Advanced Fire Training

This syllabus covers the requirements of the 1995 STCW Convention Chapter VI, Section A-VI/3 and Table A-VI/3. On meeting the minimum standard of competence in advanced fire-fighting, a trainee will be competent to take command, organise and train fire parties and control fire-fighting operations. The seafarer will have acquired knowledge of fire prevention and an ability to inspect and service fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment. He or she will also be able to investigate and report on incidents involving fire. Course details

Entry requirements

Students must have obtained an AMSA approved Basic Fire Fighting certificate or an overseas Advanced Fire Fighting Certificate before attending the Advanced Fire course (please provide a copy of your Basic Fire Certificate to Maritime Commercial Course Coordinator, before course commencement).

AMSA requires that you have FOUR (4) MONTHS BREAK between completing the Basic Fire course and attending the Advanced Fire course. (Contact AMSA for clarification if required on 9430 2100.)

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.
