Entry requirements

The minimum age requirement is 15 years. Ideally participants should possess a pass in Maths, English and Science at a year 10 level, however achievements in other subject areas and work experience is often sufficient for success in this program. Language, literacy and numeracy assistance is available.

Cairns campus: This course is delivered full-time over 12 weeks on campus, Monday to Wednesday 8.30am - 4.00pm.  It is recommended students undertake five weeks of work experience.

Townsville Trade Training Centre (Bohle): This course is delivered part-time over 12 weeks (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8.00am to 4.00pm). It is recommended students undertake four weeks of work experience. 


It is highly recommended that students undertake work experience while enrolled in this course. Work experience gives employers a chance to see how you perform on the job. It is expected that students will take initiative in finding an employer for work experience.


To gain this qualification, students need to successfully complete 12 units; 4 cores and 8 electives.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.


The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses. The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

MEM20413 Certificate II in Engineering Pathways (Automotive)

Successful completion of this course can lead into an apprenticeship within Automotive Mechanical, and/or a career as an Automotive Mechanic, Automotive Electrician, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Diesel Fitting and Engine Reconditioning.
