Develop specialist skills to help people with AOD problems.

This qualification is for individuals who are interested in working in the alcohol and other drugs sector. Students will develop skills in AOD intervention, brief intervention, referral, advocacy and education/health promotion services. High level specialist knowledge and skills will be developed in regard to harm minimisation, the Governments National drug strategy and the type of service options available.  Dual diagnosis and mental health issues in relevance to AOD use is also covered in the course. The course is suitable for people currently working in the AOD sector or similar roles. Course details

Entry requirements

There are no regulatory or certification requirements required to undertake the Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs.  It is preferable however that  prospective students have experience in the AOD sector or other relevant community service. People interested in the course are advised to speak with the course Educator, prior to enrolment.

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Timetable

Students are recommended to enrol into one cluster at a time. A cluster has a 16 week duration.

Students will be sent a Training Plan by email after enrolment.

Please note that students will be expected to complete approximately 18 hours per week of self directed studies to successfully complete this qualification.

  • obtains a copy of a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education that has been awarded to the student by an agency or authority of a State or Territory for the student’s completion of year 12; or

  • the student is assessed as displaying competence at or above Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy; and that the VET provider reasonably believes that the student displays that competence.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
