Introductory Barista - The Art of Making the Perfect Espresso
This short course provides you with the opportunity to develop basic skills and knowledge required to make delicious Espresso coffees including café latte, cappuccino, flat white, mochaccino, short and long macchiato, long black and ristretto. You will learn how to set up, operate, maintain and clean coffee equipment including the espresso machine and grinder.
Participants will gain the basic knowledge needed to gain employment in cafés, restaurants or hotel establishments as a Barista or just be able to make excellent Espresso based coffees at home. The workplace hygiene unit will allow a path for students to be a food handler as well as be aware of the hygiene requirements as a Barista. Students may choose to do additional units that will contribute towards an industry Skill Set which could assist with job prospects. Options can be discussed with the trainer.
Areas of study will include:
- Correct cleaning, sanitising and disposal procedures
- Coffee Beans - selecting and grinding
- Extracting coffee
- Texturing milk
- Preparing and presenting the different styles of coffee
- Espresso machines

Part time: 2 days / 7 hours per day, 4 days / 8 hours per day, up to 1 month / 3 days per week plus practical
