This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of well-developed retail travel sales and operational skills. This qualification is best suited for those who are interested in working for an airline, in a sales role as a travel agent or information centre, or working for a tour operator. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use a range of well-developed retail travel or wholesale sales and operational skills and sound knowledge of industry operations to coordinate travel services. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence and under limited supervision using plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.
As part of your learning, some delivery of this course takes place in industry. Students are inducted through Tourism Tropical North Queensland's volunteer program which enables the students access to a live work environment at the Visitor Information Centre. This provides an opportunity for students to work with real customers and co-workers ensuring that industry standards and expectations are fully realised by the students.
There are no formal entry requirements however a sound achievement in Year 10 Maths and English is desirable
It is strongly recommended that students posses a sound knowledge of computing skills

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable Internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.
To be able to participate in the volunteer program with the Visitor Information Centre, students will be required to purchase a TTNQ/TAFE Queensland branded T-shirt for an additional amount of $44.00. This fee needs to be paid upon enrolment into the course.
This course is a full time program delivered over a semester. Delivery and assessment is blended through a mixture of face to face classes, on the job training, industry product presentations, familiarisation trips and the online Learning Management System (Connect).
Cairns campus: 4 days per week: Tuesday - 9.00am to 4.00pm (TAFE), Wednesday - 9.00am to 4.00pm (TTNQ Visitor Information Centre), Thursday 10.30am to 4.00pm (TAFE), and Friday 9.00am to 4.00pm (TAFE)
Students will be based at the TTNQ Visitor Information Centre one day a week (Wednesdays). In order to encourage application of their studies in a live environment, students are required to volunteer at the Visitor Information Centre for an additional 4 hour shift per week. This is will be negotiated after commencement of course. As a result of volunteering at TTNQ, students will be offered to participate in familiarisation tours. Students who do not attend the volunteering shifts may be excluded from the familiarisation tours.
If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.
The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
Certificate 3 Guarantee
You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses. The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.
You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:
Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
Live in Queensland full time
Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in the retail travel or tour wholesale sector for employers that cover or specialise in leisure, corporate, domestic or international sales. Work could be undertaken in an office, shopfront, or online or mobile environment.
