Why settle for one qualification when you can have two?

By completing one extra unit in addition to the Certificate III in Travel qualification, you can gain a dual qualification in both Travel and Tourism.      

The dual qualification in Travel and Tourism provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of well-developed retail travel sales and operational skills.This qualification is best suited for those who are interested in working for an airline, in a sales role as a travel agent or information centre, or working for a tour operator. Certificate III in Tourism

  • There are no formal entry requirements however a sound achievement in Year 10 Maths and English is desirable
  • It is strongly recommended that students posses a sound knowledge of computing skills
  • Mature age applicants are welcome


Study from any location

Resources required

Students must have access to a reliable Internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player.  This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.  Students not already working in the Tourism, Hospitality or Events industry will also be required to record and upload video evidence, therefore access to video recording equipment (phones may be suitable) is also required.


Online: Once enrolment and payment are completed a commencement notification will be sent to your email address. It will contain your username, password and login instructions to help you get started. The resources and online assessment for the self-paced learning will be available on the Learning Management System, Connect.  There is no structured timetable for online study, however each unit/s of competency will have a maximum time allocated to complete that unit/s.  All assessments are required to be submitted within that time.  Refer to the Enrolment plan located below under Relevant Documents on this page for more details.

Please note that the additional unit is not eligible for most funding subsidies.


To complete both the Certificate III in Travel and Certificate III in Tourism (dual qualification), students must successfully complete 18 units (14 core units and 4 elective units)

By completing one additional unit of competency in addition to the Certificate III in Travel, you will be eligible for the double qualification of Certificate III in Travel (SIT30216) and Certificate III in Tourism (SIT30116). Please note that this additional one unit will not be eligible for most funding subsidies.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.


The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses. The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.
