Are you currently working in the travel and tourism industry and want to progress your career? The Diploma of Travel and Tourism management can help your career prospects soar.

First you will gain the underpinning skills and knowledge across a broad range of valued industry skills such as;customer service, cultural competency, digital marketing, selling domestic destinations, products and services and tour guiding.

After completing the elective tourism focused units you will gain a broad base of managerial skills required for a supervisor or management position in tourism business. These skills set include managing staff, finances and budgets, quality customer service experiences and monitoring work operations and negotiating contracts.

Entry requirements

As the Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management is aimed at individuals already working within the industry, it is a requirement to have access to a tourism workplace in order to complete some of the required assessments of the core units. Students can use their current tourism workplace or alternately be expected to do work experience one day per week for the duration of the course.

Resources required

  • USB and calculator is required
  • Galileo Licence fee
  • Access to a computer/laptop with reliable Internet connection, software such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player.

This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

  • Students will also be expected to wear a tourism uniform on excursions, industry field trips and work experience.   To be able to participate in the volunteer program with the Visitor Information Centre, students will be required to purchase a TTNQ/TAFE branded t-shirt for an additional amount of $44.00  This fee must be paid upon enrolment into the course.

Timetable

Cairns campus: up to 5 days per week over 12 months.  Monday - Tourism workplace experience; Tuesday - Friday classroom delivery from 9am-4pm.

Placement

You are required to have access to a tourism workplace in order to complete some of the required assessments of the core units. If you are not working in industry, be prepared to complete 1 day a week work experience in a tourism business.

VET Student Loans

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

You must demonstrate academic suitability by:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Note: If you are accessing a VET Student Loan, and there is a difference between the loan cap amount and the total cost of your course (for example your loan cap amount is $10,000 and your course costs $11,000 - there is a $1,000 difference), you are required to pay the difference.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Higher Level Skills Subsidy

The Higher Level Skills Subsidy is a one-off subsidy that offsets the cost of an eligible Certificate IV or higher courses.

You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:

  • Are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • Live in Queensland full time
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • And don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.
  • For some courses, you may also be required to hold a certificate 3 in a relevant industry field.
