Ever wanted to know how to 'throw a pot' and create your own coffee mug? Interested in making glazes and exploring the unpredictable delights of Raku firing? Then come and explore the work of wheel-thrown pottery with this introductory course.

You will learn the beginner-level skills and techniques required to make, glaze and fire your very own wheel-thrown pots under close guidance from artist, potter and teacher Craig Hoy. Be amazed at the unique and spectacular action of Raku firing and take home your own creation. Perfect for those starting out or wanting to refresh skills.

Potters with introductory skills are welcome to continue in this class, building on their experience and practise. Course details

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements, this short course is aimed at both beginners and those wanting to refresh and build on their skills.

Resources required

Students will be required to bring:

  • P3 mask - student to provide at extra cost (Disposable type is fine)
  • Apron, covered shoes and old clothes.
  • Other materials supplied.

Clay is supplied for the beginner level classes.  More proficient potters will need to supply additional clay beyond beginner level.  Tools are supplied, or bring your own.

Timetable

Cairns Campus: 1 evening a week for 5 weeks. Wednesdays from 6:00pm - 9:00pm. Located in L Block.
