Entry requirements

The entry requirements for this qualification are:

  • Those entering this program must be able to demonstrate vocational competency in their proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.  To apply for enrolment, please return your Candidate Profile to TAE.North@tafe.qld.edu.au.  You will hear back from a TAE facilitator to confirm your enrolment eligibility via email within 5 working days.

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland, North Region has the following selection criteria for this qualification:

  • Access to a workplace in which to conduct training and assessment
  • Basic knowledge/experience in vocational education and training is an advantage
  • Sound literacy and computer skills

If you're under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Timetable

Cairns campus: Part time classroom delivery.  2018 intake has classroom delivery on Wednesdays from 9:00am - 1:00pm

Townsville (Pimlico) campus: 2018 intake has classroom delivery on Wednesdays from 9:00am - 1:00pm

Please Note:

  • Classes are subject to enrolment numbers.
  • Attendance in class sessions is essential. 
  • Future intake delivery timetables may change

In addition to the 4 hours class per week, you will be required to spend 10-15 hours weekly engaged in self-directed study activities (e.g reading, research, preparation for practical tasks, online discussions and assignment work).

Residential option: 3 residential blocks held simultaneously at both Cairns and Pimlico campus over the 9-month course duration, with fortnightly online workshops 6:30 – 8:30 pm Thursdays between residentials.  Dates for residential blocks are as follows:
Block 1:  26 Feb – 2 March (5 days)
Block 2:  30 July – 3 Aug (5 days, including 1 day assessment)
Block 3:  17 - 21 Sept (5 days, including 1 day assessment).
NB:  Attendance at all 3 residentials is required. You will also be required to spend 10-15 hours weekly between residentials engaged in self-directed study activities (e.g reading, research, preparation for practical tasks, online discussions and assignment work).

All locations:  Part time delivery via Video Conference on Fridays from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.  Locations:  Bowen, Innisfail, Mount Isa, Normanton, Thursday Island, Burdekin, Charters Towers, Ingham, Palm Island, and Whitsundays

Upgrade program (from TAE40110 to TAE40116)

Cairns campus:  TAELLN411:  Part time delivery on Wednesdays 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, on 21/3, 28/3, 11/4, 18/4 (4 sessions required), or Block delivery – March 1&2, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (2 days)
TAEASS401, TAEASS403, TAEASS502: Part-time delivery on Wednesdays 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, on 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 May, and 6 June (6 sessions required), or Block delivery – April 16-18 inclusive, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (3 days)

Townsville (Aitkenvale) campus:  TAELLN411: Part time delivery on Tuesdays 5:00 - 9:00 pm, on 6, 13, 20, 27 February (4 sessions required), or Block delivery – March 1&2, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (2 days)
TAEASS401, TAEASS403, TAEASS502: Part-time delivery on Tuesdays 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm, on 6, 13, 20, 27 March, and 17, 24 April (6 sessions required)

Important Information

TAE40116 Upgrade

The Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015 state that as of 31 March 2019 trainers and assessors employed by an RTO must hold:

  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or
  • TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus the following units:
    • TAELLN411 or TAELLN401A, and
    • TAEASS502 or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B or
  • a diploma or higher level qualification in adult education.

This means if you currently hold TAE40110, in order to remain compliant you have two options:

Option 1:  Continue to hold your TAE40110 and attain TAELLN411 (or equivalent) and TAEASS502 (or equivalent) by no later than 31/03/2019; or

Option 2:  Upgrade your TAE40110 to TAE40116 by 31/03/2019.  This option requires successful completion of the below 4 units:

  • TAELLN411 (or equivalent),

  • TAEASS502 (or equivalent), plus

  • TAEASS401 (not equivalent to its predecessor TAEASS401A/B) and

  • TAEASS403 (not equivalent to its predecessor TAEASS403A/B).

In either case (Option 1 or 2) you may apply for RPL providing you can demonstrate currency, or alternatively enrol for training.  Refer to Timetable information for program commencement dates.  Cost: RPL $195 per unit; Training $380 per unit.

To apply for enrolment in the Upgrade program (either Option 1 or 2), please submit your Candidate Profile to TAE.North@tafe.qld.edu.au and attach your Statement of Results from your TAE40110 qualification, as well as evidence of your vocational competency in your proposed teaching and assessing area.
