This qualification covers the skills required to perform sales as a Parts Interpreter in an automotive retail outlet or a mechanical service and repair business. Parts interpreting covers a number of industry areas including; light automotive vehicles, motorcycles, heavy commercial vehicles, Outdoor power equipment, Boat Chandlery, Mobile plant equipment, Agriculture Farm machinery and Paint and Panel repair.

Throughout this course you will learn the skills required to interact and build customer relations, respond to customer enquiries and complaints. You will receive training in the areas of sales and marketing, providing you with skills in merchandising and promotion. Training will also cover warehousing operations and selecting and supplying automotive parts. Course details

Entry requirements

Entry to this qualification is usually through an indenture as an apprentice or via Recognition of Prior Learning, RPL (see below). NB: In some cases, credit towards this qualification may apply from previously completed study. School based apprenticeships are also available. Minimum age: Entry into an apprenticeship or traineeship is generally limited to individuals who are 16 years of age or older. In special circumstances consideration may be given to individuals 13 years or older seeking to enter into an apprenticeship or traineeship. Queensland legislation applies age restrictions to particular apprenticeships and traineeships.

If you are under 18 years of age at the start date of your apprenticeship or traineeship, your parent or guardian must sign the training contract.

Education: Levels of education that should be attained prior to entry into the apprenticeship may be recommended but these are not mandatory unless the levels are set in legislation. Resources required

  • Steel capped safety boots are required while engaged in work activities and while students are in designated areas of TAFE Queensland
