TAFE Queensland North provides short-term counselling services from experienced, qualified Counsellors.

Counsellors are available to assist the TAFE Queensland North community in addressing the individual physical, emotional, social, educational and vocational needs of students, and where necessary, will work with teachers to assist students to achieve their personal and education potential.

This is a free and confidential service available to current and prospective TAFE Queensland North students.

Career and Vocational Counselling

Career and Vocational Counselling is available to assist current and prospective students to take responsibility for their career planning and development to prepare them for the work force.

Career and Vocational Counselling assists students with:

  • Educational and occupational exploration
  • Making decisions and career planning
  • Implementing career decisions and plans

Educational Counselling

Educational Counselling is available to existing students and aims to improve and enhance study performance and successful course outcomes.

Educational Counselling assists existing students with:

  • Study skills, including stress, time management and assessment concerns
  • Personal and social issues that interfere with levels of achievement
  • Early intervention to prevent failure or withdrawal from study
  • Liaison with teaching and other support staff to ensure student success
  • Accessing appropriate college support services to enhance study performance
  • Developing skills to link study course plans with work goals and career pathways
  • Mediation and facilitation of academic and disciplinary appeals
  • Further education and training information

Short-Term Personal Counselling

Confidential Counselling is available to current students and assists with developing skills to resolve personal, social and emotional issues.

Personal Counselling provides students with improved ways of dealing with issues concerning:

  • Personal development
  • Self awareness
  • Self esteem
  • Decision making
  • Conflict resolution
  • Goal setting and planning
  • Relationships
  • Family and home
  • Health matters
  • Financial and legal matters
  • Social and cultural transitions
  • Crisis situations or grievances
